MP PRAISES RECYCLING SCHEME IN NORTHAMPTON

Northampton MP Brian Binley visited local company Walkerpack Ltd today to see the success they have made in recycling their waste. Mr Binley, who chairs a Conservative parliamentary group for enterprise, visited the company at their offices in the Brackmills Industrial Estate and learnt that an 98% of their waste is now recycled.

Mr Binley said,

“I am immensely impressed with the continuing efforts that Walkerpack are making in the area of recycling. When I last visited the company they were already recycling an impressive 93% of its waste and I said I would return to see if they could improve it even further. I am delighted to see the company has achieved that and some. I hope that successful and responsible schemes like this one are used as templates by other local companies.”

Walkerpack is a division of The Walker Group and provides a full range of packing services from pack design through to sophisticated export packing of vulnerable products. They provide logistical services, support and warehousing to companies in Northampton and the surrounding area.

Chris Farnsworth, Business Development Manager at Walkerpack Ltd, said,

“Until 2002 Walkerpack Ltd was sending in excess of 1,000 tonnes of waste to landfill every year. The company decided to take a lead in a responsible approach to waste management and partnered up with Veolia to help re-use and recycle as much waste as possible. I am very proud that figure now stands at 98%.”

During the visit Brian met with Rebecca Clarke, a local schoolgirl from Northampton, who raised with him the importance of recycling initiatives for all small businesses. Rebecca, a student at Caroline Chisholm School, emphasised the the importance of recycling for her generation and asked him to raise the issue with other MPs.
